The PPMD Certified Duchenne Care Center (CDCC) program aims to ensure all individuals with Duchenne and Becker have access to high quality, comprehensive, and coordinated care and research. The program is rooted in five guiding principles: Quality, Advancement, Education, Collaboration, and Transparency.
The program was created to ensure centers maintain the highest standards in clinical and sub-specialty services, rapidly apply new evidence-based knowledge, and comply with standards in clinical care that were established by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in collaboration with patient advocacy groups and the TREAT-NMD network (“CDC Care Considerations”). There are now 39 PPMD certified centers across the United States who demonstrate excellence in providing quality care to individuals living with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy.
While every PPMD CDCC provides excellence in care, PPMD wanted to also recognize those participating in research; thus, created an optional Clinical Research Designation. This designation will highlight CDCCs that demonstrate a commitment to excellence in conducting Duchenne clinical trials and research. Significant advancements have been made in the development and implementation of clinical research investigating potential therapies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. PPMD CDCCs with sufficient clinical trial infrastructure are currently conducting multiple interventional clinical trials and have a strong history of clinical research will be eligible to apply for this additional designation. A center with a Clinical Research Designation will demonstrate excellence in clinical research to the community, highlighting the additional knowledge and expertise within a center, distinct from provisions of clinical care. Designation is granted for a period of five years and will be identified to the Duchenne community through applicable PPMD channels.
